Women openly soliciting along Orchard Road: 'Be my boyfriend tonight' Jul 7, 2025 at 02:44pm 1/4 PHOTO: SHIN MIN DAILY NEWS Teo Yan Ting TNP July 17, 2025 Groups of women have been seen openly soliciting along Orchard Road, sparking concern among members of the public about the image it may project of Singapore's premier shopping district. Shin Min Daily News has received reports of foreign sex workers appearing regularly outside Forum The Shopping Mall in recent months, particularly after nightfall. A reporter who visited the area observed around 10 women stationed along the pavement after dark - some sitting on stone benches and others perched on the steps of the mall - waiting for potential customers. The women, believed to be between their 20s and 40s, were seen approaching men who glanced at them more than once. In some cases, they initiated physical contact or used flirtatious phrases such as "Be my boyfriend tonight". Some men were seen stopping to negotiate with the women, and within about five minutes, left together, usually by taxi or private-hire car. An office worker in the area told Shin Min that the activity outside the mall began about three months ago and appeared to involve mostly foreign women, including several from Vietnam. "There are a lot of tourists here, many of them with families," he said. "Having women openly soliciting in such a public place could affect Singapore's image." He added that the activity tends to peak around 11pm and can continue until as late as 3 or 4am. At its height, he estimated seeing 20 to 30 women gathered along the stretch outside the mall. Members of the public who witness suspected vice activity can report it to the police. Under Singapore law, solicitation in public places is an offence.
