SINGAPORE – The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on July 11 that it had detected 232 active mobility offences and impounded 151 non-compliant devices during islandwide enforcement operations over the last two months.
In a Facebook post, LTA said it worked with officers from Marina Bay, Punggol and Geylang neighbourhood police centres to target large group gatherings of users during the June school holidays.
The offences include the use of power-assisted bicycles – or e-bikes – with improper or missing registration plates, keeping or riding illegally modified e-bikes and riding bicycles without working handbrakes, the authority added.
First-time offenders caught using improper or obscured e-bike number plates may face a fine of up to $1,000, a jail term of three months, or both.
Those caught using non-compliant devices on paths may be fined up to $10,000, jailed for six months, or both.
