ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi became emotional when speaking about his responsibility towards the people of the state.
He said he, like everyone else, will be questioned by God in the afterlife on what he had done on earth.
"Every time I receive a complaint or plea, whether through WhatsApp, comments on Facebook or Instagram, or a video on TikTok, I cannot close my eyes, turn a deaf ear, or blind my heart," he said.
"I would not dare to say 'this is not my jurisdiction' because, for the people out there, who else can they rely on?
"For every complaint ignored, every neglected pothole, every accident caused by negligence, every delayed project, and every family that suffers, I will have to answer before God," he said during his winding-up speech for the Johor Budget 2026 in Kota Iskandar today.
Earlier, Onn Hafiz apologised to all assemblymen, senior government officials, and department heads if they were slighted by his words or actions in the course of doing his duty.
"I know it's not easy to work with me. Many have struggled and gone through a very challenging time adapting to the pace of my administration," he said.
"I admit that my way of working may be different and cause discomfort. Some say I am too demanding, too aggressive, with expectations that are too high and unreasonable.
"My reprimands can be too stern and sharp," he said, adding he accepted feedback with an open heart
"All this pressure comes from the responsibility I carry for the four million people in Johor. I only want the best for Bangsa Johor," he said.
